We recently started a new section on our blog where we share with you some of the stories and photos from the people who travel with us in South America. Claire and her friends just got back from traveling around Argentina, visiting Iguazu Falls, Salta and the vineyards of Mendoza. Here she shares with us one of her highlights of the whole Argentina trip – wine tasting in Mendoza.
Who were you traveling with?
With a group of old friends from the US and Europe, we hadn’t seen each other for a long time so it was great to spend some time traveling around Argentina together.
Why did you choose this trip?
We have been on some wine tasting tours together before and it´s one of my favorite ways to spend time with friends – good food, good wine and good company – you can’t get better than that. I am also a big fan of Malbec (Mendoza´s specialty), so Argentina has been on my list of places to visit for a long time now. It wasn´t hard to convince the others!
What was your favorite part of the trip?
The five course meals with wine pairings in Mendoza’s vineyards! …and Iguazu Falls was pretty impressive too of course.
Who was your favorite guide and what did they show you?
All of the wine guides in Mendoza were great, really knowledgeable and fun and obviously dedicated to their jobs. Mind you, I am sure I would be too if my job was wine tasting!
Did you take photos? If so, which is your favorite photo and why?
I took a lot of pictures on the trip across all of Argentina – the landscapes in the north were incredible and I took about 100 pictures of Iguazu Falls. Some of my favorites are from Mendoza though. I love the one of the snow covered Andes – I think it looks like a painting as the colors are so soft. I also like wine-tasting shot of the guys – it’s a serious business you know this wine tasting!
What part of your trip will you never forget?
That’s a difficult question – Argentina is such a varied and beautiful country. I won’t forget any part of our trip and I would love to come back soon and travel through Patagonia, and perhaps over the Andes from Mendoza into Chile to try the wine over there.
Do you have any other stories to share with us?
Make sure not to buy too many bottles of wine! We had a lot – too many to take back home with us, and we ended up having to drink most of them before we left! This resulted in some sore heads on the flight home.
