Private transfer to the airport to take your flight to Calafate. If you’re lucky enough to land in El Calafate on a sunny day, you will have unforgettable views of the mountains and lakes right before you land. We will take you from the tiny airport to your hotel in town. El Calafate is a nice little town in an otherwise desolate area, with one main street where most of the restaurants and shops are centered, and a few streets leading off of it.
Start by getting your bearings by strolling around town and maybe pick out one of the local restaurants for lunch or dinner. It is often cold and windy here, so the lamb racks in the windows of restaurants, the lit fireplaces and the view of other travelers sipping from their wine glasses will be sure to tempt you inside. If you have a full afternoon available and feel like some fresh air and a walk, then head down to the bottom end of town to the Laguna Nimez Nature Reserve. You have to pay a small entrance fee but there is a beautiful circuit taking you through shrub-lands and wetlands and down to the lake’s edge. You’ll see all sorts of unusual birdlife down there, and if you aren’t a seasoned bird watcher, you can always borrow a bird guidebook from the nature reserve office to help spot the different species of bird. In the evening just relax, enjoy dinner and get a good night’s rest as tomorrow you’ll be visiting the Perito Moreno Glacier!

After breakfast, you’ll be picked up from your hotel and driven, as part of a small group, into the Patagonia Glacier National Park to the spectacular Perito Moreno Glacier. The views along the way are beautiful in their own right, and you’ll find it hard to tear your eyes away from such a dramatic landscape. Everything here is on a massive scale; with vast swathes of empty grassland and huge mountains – any sign of human inhabitancy looks tiny and insignificant.
After about 50 miles you’ll start to catch glimpses of the Perito Moreno ice wall as the road twists and turns its way through the Patagonia National Park. Stopping at a good vantage point you’ll be able to soak up this incredible glacier from afar before heading down to view it up close. The network of wooden walkways in the park allows you to get very close to the glacier wall and you’ll be able to see and hear huge chunks of ice breaking off and plunging into the icy waters below. After admiring this magnificent glacier from up-close, your transfer and group guide will take you back to your accommodation in El Calafate where the rest of the afternoon and evening is free to spend at leisure.
Note: If you’d like you can add the mini-trekking hike on the glacier’s surface to today’s itinerary check with your travel specialist. You’ll then be able to look forward to putting on your crampons and exploring the surface of the glacier in a unique and once in a lifetime experience!
Included: Group guided excursion w/ entrances; Accommodation in Calafate. (Meals – Breakfast).

Today you will visit Torres del Paine National Park in a Full-day tour by 4×4 truck. Thanks to the structural strength of these vehicles, two old sections of the ex – Route 40 already in disuse (El Cerrito – Tapi Aike / Fuentes del Coyle – C. Carrera) are used in this journey, allowing to reduce some 200kms between rounds and avoid stopping to the restroom during the route, this generates a reduction of 2 total hours of the trip to the conventional excursion.
You will be picked up at 7 am approx. from your hotel. Crossing the Patagonian steppe from north to south you will arrive at the border crossing of Cancha Carrera (2hs 20 min), from where you will begin to cross the beautiful south of Chile until entering Torres del Paine National Park (Blue in Tehuelche language, in reference to the prevailing color), around 11.30 am you will make the first panoramic stop on Lake Sarmiento with all the Paine Range in front of you. You’ll stop at lakes, waterfalls, viewpoints; see guanacos and foxes, amongst other wildlife.
In Laguna Amarga, taking advantage of the potential of the 4x4s, you will go around the lagoon by its sand coasts, to gain access to the best panoramic view of the Torres del Paine. There you will make a stop for a short hike, then you will continue towards the Paine Waterfall where you will descend to do the picnic lunch on the bank of Paine River overlooking Las Torres. Once trekking again, and after stops in several viewpoints (Lagoon of the Swans, Upper Viewpoint of the Nordenskjold), you will arrive at the Salto Grande, from where a hike to the Mirador de Los Cuernos del Paine is made on the shores of Lake Nordenskjold. This walk is guided and lasts about 2 hours in total (From 2 to 4 pm approx.).
After this hike, you continue to a new vantage point, this time in the vicinity of Lake Pehoe, from where you will have one of the most famous views of the National Park, with the Horns and the French Valley in the background, framed by the Lakes Pehoe and Nordenskjold, from there you will also see, the Mounts Paine Grande and Almirante Nieto.
Restrictions: This excursion is not recommended for pregnant women, people suffering from diseases with a risk of functional or organic deterioration during walking, people with heart problems, balance, disabling diseases in relation to coordination and motor, disabilities, problems of the spine or neck. Today is left free for your leisure and to explore, of course, we highly recommend getting out into the fresh air and hiking, but whether you wake up at dawn and head out on a serious hike or take it easy with a light walk it’s entirely up to you. You can also decide to be accompanied by a guide or just study the map and hit the trail on your own. Whatever you choose, you can’t really go wrong! The Torres del Paine National Park is quite simply stunning and the location of your accommodation means that you’ll be able to enjoy views of the park’s famous tower-like mountains from the get-go.
If you’re up for the challenge, one of our favorite and most rewarding hikes is to the Base of the towers. This 11.2-mile hike runs alongside the Ascencio River passes through dense forest and winds up through a rough moraine until you arrive at the foot of the famous Towers. You can then descend along the same trail to the starting point at Laguna Amarga. Alternatively, you can go on a shorter 2.5-mile hike to the Cuernos (Horns) of Torres del Paine which is an easy-going and relatively flat half-day hike. The Horns Viewpoint trail is an eye-catching introduction to the National Park with the huge horns’ of the Paine accompanying you during the whole hike. You’ll also be able to stop off at Salto Grande Waterfall during the hike and admire its glacial blue waters which drop down a 50 ft. tall chute into the pool below which eventually runs into Lake Pehoe.
All that fresh Patagonia mountain air will definitely reset your system and we found that at the end of the day we couldn’t keep our eyes open and fell into bed for one of the best night’s sleep we’d had in a long time.
Tip for the day: Set off well equipped for rain or shine. The weather changes quickly in the mountains so you’ll want to be prepared. Please consider, depending on your accommodation, you may need transportation to some trekking starting points.
Included: Accommodation in Torres del Paine. (Meals – Breakfast).
