Canoeing Back in Time
Hidden in the Mountain Pine Ridge of the Cayo District is the wet cave of Barton Creek which can only be explored accompanied by a guide and in a canoe. As you paddle your way deeper into the cave you will be able to see exquisite crystal cave formations as well as the remains of Mayans dating back to the Classic Period. The Ancient Maya buried at least 28 people and left thousands of pottery jars and fragments of other Mayan artifacts within the cave which adds to the mysterious beauty of Barton Creek.

Surrounded by crystal clear, warm azure waters, the calm swaying of palm trees along a white sandy beach; you will need to pinch yourself to make sure that you aren’t in fact dreaming! However, the Island is not just about relaxing on the beach, as there is plenty to do under the water too! With the second largest barrier reef in the world situated just off the coast of Ambergris Caye it would be a shame not to take full advantage of this stunning environment. The reef’s clear, calm waters are a haven for scuba divers and snorkelers and with over 500 species of fish you can enjoy the vibrant colors of this underwater world!

Renowned oceanographer Jacque Cousteau described Belize as, “one of the four must-dive locations on this blue planet” and with the spectacular Blue Hole, it is certainly a dive not to be missed.

If a relaxing snorkel sounds more appealing, you can have a unique experience snorkeling with turtles, stingrays and friendly nurse sharks at Shark Ray Alley near to the Hol Chan Marine Reserve.
