Paradise in Morro de São Paulo
Morro de São Paulo is one of five surreal villages on the island of Tinharé. The beautiful Mediterranean-esque village in northeastern Brazil is famous for its calm atmosphere, being vehicle-free and of course its heavenly beaches. Making the short journey on-board a catamaran from the coast of Salvador da Bahia to the town of Morro de São Paulo, when you arrive you’ll come face to face with the beauty of Brazil’s famous beaches. Its relaxed pace, white-sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters will be difficult to leave but if you can tear yourself away from the beaches there’s plenty to explore on the island. With a rich history, the fortress of Morro de São Paulo was constructed to prevent invasions from the Dutch and to protect the Todos os Santos Bay. Taking almost a century to construct, the Fortaleza de Tapirandu was at the time recognized as one of the strongest and largest fortifications in Brazil. As well as being a national heritage site, the fort is also one of the best places to watch the island’s breathtaking sunsets where it is sometimes possible to see, dolphins jumping out of the water close to the shore.
